The Well Deserved and an undeserving end!

It was supposed to be the ending of a thrilling chapter of their lives, Tom and Jackie were all too happy to turn the page and begin their chapter of being grandparents. When they awoke the morning of November 15th 2004, they had no idea the day would end the way it did. Tom and Jackie both laid sideways on the bed with hands tied behind their backs and duct tape over their mouths. Trying desperately to hold each others hands to comfort the other. A young man would enter the room that sat below deck as they could hear the crashing of the waves against the hull. The man would tell them that they would untie their hands in order to sign a few documents. Do this, and they will go home alive.
On November 11th 2004 Tom and Jackie Hawks threw a farewell party on board their yacht they had dubbed the "Well Deserved". The party included some of their yacht friends and Tom's brother Jim. That night they raised their glasses in a toast and would talk about the young family who will be purchasing their yacht that they have had so many lovely memories on. But they were looking forward to the next chapter of their life being grandparents. During the party the buyer would call to confirm that the sea trial was still happening on the 15th. Sea trial meaning a test drive to make sure the boat is functioning properly and to see how it handles the water. Tom and Jackie kept in regular contact with their two boys and Tom's brother Jim so when no one had heard from them after the sea trial was meant to take place, it definitely raised concern for Jim. Jim being a former police officer thought maybe they were tied up with all the paperwork and what that goes into selling the boat and then looking for a house but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
After a couple days Jim couldn't let it go after a number of unreturned phone calls. He reached out to Tricia who was the couple financier who looked after their affairs on land while they were at sea. But, she hadn't heard from the couple in awhile either. She told Jim she had called Tom multiple times to remind him of an upcoming V.A. appointment she had made for him. So, then he called their son Ryan and he hadn't heard from them either. Which was unlike them, Ryan had just had a baby and Tom constantly called to the point that it annoyed Ryan especially when the baby was trying to sleep. Ryan told his uncle that the last time he spoke to them was the day of the sea trial. He had been trying to remain optimistic in thinking that his parents were to excited about the sale that they had went to Mexico to start looking for a house already. But deep down he knew something wasn't right. Jackie's parents were beginning to be concerned as well as Jackie would call her mother daily.
Jim would contact a former colleague at his old precinct and the two would ride together to the Leeto Isle Yacht club where the Well Deserved was usually ported. And there it was, exactly where Jim had expected but he immediately knew something was off about the boat. Tom and Jackie were complete neat freaks and were very careful witht the way they treated the Well Deserved. As Jim approached he noticed that the green tarp used to protect it from the weather was tied on incorrectly. He also noticed a dirty towel hanging out of one of the port holes which would have been a sin for Tom. He also noticed that the padlock on the cabin had been changed and the dingy was left submerged in the salt water which is also something that Tom never would have done. All of this was evidence that the Well Deserved was now under new ownership. The only thing that made this odd to Jim was that he had gifted his brother a custom surf board that was one of Tom's prized possessions and yet, there it was still sitting on the deck where it always was. So, he wrote a note saying he was looking for his brother and wanted the new owner to contact him. Then he drove around looking for his brother's Silver CR-V but he never found it. Jim didn't know it then but it would take years to unravel what had happened to his brother and sister in law.

Early 2002 Jennifer Henderson was surfing the web and chatting with people in an online chat room when she met a man named Skyler Deleon. Jennifer was born into a middle class family whose lives revolved around church and service to the community. She was shined in high school with straight A's and being a member of athletics and softball teams. She even volunteered for missions to South Africa. The family didn't have a lot but she never went without and her parents absolutely adored her. After highschool Jennifer attended a beauty course and became a hair dresser. So, when she brought Skylar home her parents were impressed. He came off as a well mannered guy who seemed to have his life together. He told them he was an ex marine and he showered Jennifer with gifts and fancy dinners. A few months into their relationship Skylar would barrow a motorcycle from a friend and get into an accident that left severe damage to his bladder and he would now have to wear an adult diaper. And all to often when it comes to injuries like this comes pain medications. 6 months after they had met online Skylar and Jennifer would get married with a small ceremony on the beach. Not long after they were married Jennifer found out she was pregnant with a daughter. Skylar couldn't hold down a job so they agreed it made more sense for Skylar to stay home with the child and Jennifer would be the bread winner. Skylar was constantly coming up with get rich quick schemes and barrowed 18,000 dollars from Jennifer's dad and bought a truck boat and scuba gear to start a scuba tour business but would never actually do anything with it. Skylar would end up getting a job at a mortgage lender and began scamming his co-workers. Shortly after this Skylar was caught in the act of burglarizing a home and was charged with arm burglary. He was sentenced to a year in prison but Jennifer's parents would coming running to his rescue. They agreed to paying weekly so that Skylar could attend a work furlow program. But some how, not sure how but Skylar would find a way to not go to work and go home to sit with his daughter or go out with his crew dealing drugs and running scams. Shortly there after Jennifer would find out she was pregnant once again and Skylar was facing the reality of being a stay at home dad of two. He became obsessed with wealth and status and began to think that the world owed him something. Why does his family have to live in scwaller? So, when he came across an ad of a Yacht for sale. Skylar felt like he couldn't pass up the opportunity and would respond to the ad. He would tell the sellers he made a fortune acting in the Power Rangers TV show and that was how he could afford their high asking price. He told them he's been making real estate investments and was looking for the next adventure with his wife and kids.

Skylar was a cancer. A leach and preyed on unsuspecting people. His decisions would ruin the lives of many people.

Tom and Jackie had the kind of love that made others envious. They met in the early 1980s at a chili cook off and they became two peas in a pod almost instantly. Tom was a retired military firefighter and probation officer with two young sons from a previous marriage at home. Jackie's first husband died in a motorcycle accident that left her with injuries where she would need a wheelchair. But, Jackie's physical limitations never bothered Tom. He loved her for her. Her injuries left her not being able to bare children of her own so she treated Tom's sons Ryan and Matt like they were hers. In time they would start calling Jackie mom and would take a proud place in their wedding in 1989. By then Jackie had recovered from her injuries and gained her independence. The couple didn't want to live life in a way where they were just letting time pass. Life is so fleeting and you never know what might happened so they wanted to live their lives like it was one big adventure. In 2002 after years of hard work they bought a 55 ft yacht named the Well Deserved. The name could not have been more fitting. They sold their home and would move onto the yacht full time. They sailed up and down the west coast from San Diego to Mexico Sea of Cortez soaking in the sun and visiting the beautiful coastal towns. As they sailed they also worked through a list of improvements to make the well deserved more self sustainable. They installed a state of the art GPS system an emergency locator beacon and a fresh water to salt water convertor. They also stocked up the yacht with several months of non parishables so they would never get caught strainded without food and water. But in 2004 Matt and his wife welcomed their first son into the world named Jayce. The birth of their first grandchild beackoned them to return to life on land. They wanted to be their for all the little moments. So they made the decision to sell the well deserved. They had hoped to make enough off of the well deserved to buy a house close to their son Matt and put away some money for Jayce and buy a smaller boat so they could still get out on the water OCCASSIONALLY. But soon after they listed the well deserved they would be contacted by Skylar.

John Julius Jacob Jr was born August 12 1979 in Sun Valley California. His parents Lynette and John Sr had everything going for them except a stable relationship. John Sr or Johnny as he liked to go by was a convicted drug dealer who dragged 16 year old Lynnette into his chaotic lifestyle and got hooked on drugs. Then, to her surprise. Lynnette would become pregnant and would attempt to get an abortion, Johnny, who seemed to control everything she did wouldn't allow that to happen. It absolutely had nothing to do with wanting to be a father, he just wanted to be in control. The shot caller if you will. A real narcissist. If anything it appeared that Johnny actually hated his son to the outside world. Still in diapers he would beat junior so hard with a wooden spoon that the spoon would break. Junior was regularly subjected to strangulation and slaps across the face when he was a toddler. Outside of the violence he endured he witnessed his father dealing drugs and his mother using. After she had found out she was pregnant she quit cold turkey but after a few months of breast feeding she would adapt to a diet of cocaine and not much else. Every time Lynnette would try to leave her husband he would remind her how violent he can be or that she would be cut off from her supply. When Johnny started using his own supply and wasn't able to afford his re-up he would offer his wife to his suppliers and she would be subjected to sexual acts that sometimes would be more than one man at a time. But, soon that well would run dry and Johnny began cooking up his own meth to sell to Columbian drug dealer and biker gangs.
When it was time for junior to start school Lynnette would finally work up the courage to leave Johnny and start the process of a restraining order. But when Johnny found out where they were hiding he would come running, strangling and stabbing Lynnette. Somehow she managed to flee with John Jr in her arms. Johnny was eventually arrested but he was granted bail and released back home. Lynnette would be left with nowhere to go. She either stayed with Johnny and he would keep beating her until he killed her or she leaves and he tracks her down and kills her anyway. She would end up making a heart wrenching decision and would leave Junior with Senior and flee. She decided it would be easier to get custody of John Jr the legal way. But unfortunately Johnny was prepared to play that game as well and would hire a lawyer that made Lynnette look like a drug addict and unfit mother. Which wasn't entirely inaccurate. Eventually Lynnette would be granted visitation but Johnny hardly ever let her see Junior and she was too scared of what he might do to her if she brought him back to court. In the end, the only time she got with her son was when Johnny was busy with a drug run or out with one of his many girlfriends. Everytime she did see her son there would be new bruises on his body where his father had beaten him. Life for John Jr was as bad as it could get but his father always found a way to make a worse. Shoving toothpicks underneath his nails that caused excrutiating pain all because he was biting his nails. And when he was about 8 years old his father began forcing him to sleep in his bed where Johnny would sexually molest him. He was often sent over to the neighbors house where he would dress as a woman and the old man would take photos. Another money scheme for Johnny to have for his drugs. Johnny's girlfriends were all aware of the abuse he subjected his son to but none of them seemed to care enough to do anything about it. John Jr would finally be able to breathe a little when his father was sent to prison for drug trafficking. He was then sent to live with his mother who was now remarried and off drugs. But unfortunately as soon as Johnny was released he would begin demanding his son be returned.
As a teenager Johnny would find a new way to make money off of him. He enrolled him into acting classes and getting gigs in commercials like Nintendo, Hyundai, and Buick. At the age of 14 he appeared as an uncredited extra in the television series Mighty Morphing Power Rangers. That roll was suppose to be a stepping stone to the limelight and an unlimited cash flow for Johnny. But like all narcassists he wouldn't be able to control his anger and would often be seen abusing his son on set that caused John Jr to be dropped by his agency. He was never able to grab another roll, his acting career was over before it even began thanks to his father. Not long after CPS would become involved and John Jr would tell about all the abuse he had experienced but for some reason, not sure if this is normal but the agent invited SR to sit in on the second interview and John Jr would give a completely different story saying he never had been hit by his father and all the bruises he had was from the martial arts training he partook in for his roll on Power Rangers. The Agent was like meh sounds good to me and closed the case. Over the next three years there would be a couple more reports but nothing ever came from them. John Jr had no friends and no life outside of his father except for one of Johnny's ex-wives named Lisa who kept an eye on him even after separating from his father. When he got in trouble for missing too much school she signed him up for private tutoring and helped him achieve his diploma. At the age of twenty he would join the Marine Corp. but after 14 days he would flee and be dishonorably discharged from the military. A few months after that he would run into a man named Skylar Deleon and never be heard from again.

Jon Peter Jarvi who went by JP was born in 1958 to Betty and Norm in Anaheim California. JP was described as an intelligent kid with a taste for adventure. In high school he fell in with the wrong crowd and developed a taste for drugs. His mother Betty would say that all the kids in their neighborhood were using and it proved to be difficult to point JP in the right direction. His addiction would place him in the same room as dangerous criminals and frequent run ins with the law. All though it was looking bleak for him JP was able to over come his addiction and would graduate high school early. He would later earn his private pilots license. Getting a job flying wealthy business men but frequently flying meant a lot of sitting. JP would eventually be subjected to neck and back surgery. He would become addicted to pain meds and soon relapse into harder drugs once more. Betty begged her son to go into rehab but he was convinced he could kick it himself. After and incedent at work he would lose his pilots license and would jump from job to job all the while fighting the ever nagging feeling to use again. After failing to hold a job he started jewelery making in his parents family business. Life seemed to be favoring JP once more until his father passed. He became severly depressed and stopped jewelery making and started getting involved with get rich quick schemes like drug dealing and shady investments. Right before Christmas of 2002 he was arrested for his roll in a counterfeiting operation and served a few months and released in September 2003. On December 27th 2003 JP's body was found on the side of the road in Encinata Mexico. His throat had been slit from ear to ear and it appeared that he had survived for awhile after the attack. As there was a trail of blood that led to a rocky area that was hidden from the view of the road. The road was also less traveled so no witnesses or anyone to offer JP any kind aid while he bled out on the side of the road. The investigation into his death determined he was involved in a drug deal gone wrong. It wouldn't be until 2004 that detectives would find a link between JP and Skylar Deleon. Skylar and JP shared a cell for three months in 2003 where Skylar carefully learned all he could about JP in order to use him for his own get rich quick schemes. Once JP was released Skylar reached out asking JP to invest in a Mexican business he was planning to open. He promised a sweet reward but only if JP could make an up front payment of 50,000 dollars. So, JP cashed out 50% of his share he owned with his parents. Then he drove to Encinata to meet with Skylar to hand over the cash. The next day he was dead.

Skylar and Jennifer excitedly told Jennifer's parents that they just finished paperwork for a purchase of a yacht that they could live and work on. Finally getting out her parents hair and out of their garage. Her parents were a bit skeptical of the purchase since Skylar owed them a significant amount of money and he didn't think Skylar could actually afford the boat but he shared their excitement all the same and picked up cleaning supplies for them. He brought the supplies to the dock and Skylaar and Jennifer would show him around and he was taken aback by the impressive size of the Well Deserved. While the three of them cleaned the boat. Steve Jennifer's father would have a nagging feeling about how they had gotten their hands on such a beautiful vessel. So, he asked. They told him that it was handed over to Skylar by a man who owed a debt to Skylar from his time dealing drugs. Steve knew Skylar had a past but thought it was all behind him and didn't think his daughter would ever lie to him being that she wasn't raised that way. So he bought their story and didn't ask any further questions and didn't even blink an eye when he was told that the owner also threw in a silver honda CR-V. They would eventually take Steve out on a 24 hour fishing trip he would recall how excited both his daughter and Skylar were about their future on the open sea. The next day they asked Steve to join them on a drive down to Arizona because they needed to finish some paper work to complete transferring ownership of the Well Deserved. Afterward they would head to the bank where Tom and Jackie had their money and would request withdrawing a large sum from their account. When asked for I.D. they apparently handed over a power of attorney document that granted them access to all accounts belonging to the couple. The document was signed and fingerprinted by Tom and Jackie and appeared to be legit. The bank manager told them that they couldn't be allowed to withdraw anything until the document was certified by Tom and Jackie's main bank in Prescot. They left the bank empty handed but, they still had the boat. After returning from Arizona they would return to the vessel to find Jim's note. So, Jennifer called him the following day. According to her she and Skylar hadn't seen the couple since the day of the sea trial. She told Jim they paid Tom in cash and signed all the documents before Tom and Jackie drove off in their Honda. She also said that Tom and Jackie were supposed to give them lessons on the boat but haven't been able to get in touch with them. Jim then asked, if that was the case why were their personal belongings still on nthe boat, like the surf board. She replied that the couple said they would leave their things aboard until they found a house to move into. She then reassured Jim that if she heard anything he would be the first person she would call. Her explanation didn't quite sit right with Jim. It was like they dropped off the face of the earth, they hadn't been in contact with anyone they were close with since that day. They haven't even called to check in on their grandchild. With a gut feeling that Skylar and Jennifer knew more than they were saying, without any evidence, there wasn't much he could do. Skylar and JEnnifer were interview multiple times but they stuck to their story of the cash purchase and the couple driving off in their Honda. When asked about the power of attorney documents they would say that Tom and Jackie willingly signed them to simplify the transaction. Which didn't make any kind of sense and a search of the Well Deserved wouldn't provide any clues either. DNA of Toma and Jackie were found through out the vessel but no blood or signs of a struggle. With no evidence of any wrong doing it would seem Skylar would get away with what he had done until he offered up a witness named Alonso Machain. He said he was there for the sea trial and could provide a testimony to validate everything that happened that day. When Alonso was interviewed he told the exact same story and that he helped putting the power of attorney documents together and the couple drove off into the sunset in their Honda. But when detectives notice some in consistencies in Alonso's story they would attempt a second interview but he vanished. His family would tell police that he had left for Mexico. At this time it had been a little over three months since the last time anyone heard from Jackie and Tom.
In March of 2005 Alonso's conscience would finally get to him and he would return to the states and ask to speak with detectives. Alonso met Skylar when Skylar was in jail for burglary and Alonso was a Jr Gaurd. They became close and would often cover for Skylar on work furlow so skylar could go home instead of work. Once Skylar was released they kept in touch and met up regularly. Skylar always had some get rich schemes and Alonso would say none of them worked out but Skylar always had a way of making him feel like the next one was the big one. It was September of 2004 when Skylar would disclose his plan to Alonso of seizing ownership of the Well Deserved after seeing it advertised in a magazine. Alonso also said that during the first meeting Skylar sensed that Tom and Jackie were a bit weary of him so he called Jennifer to come down with their children to put their minds at ease. Once the sea trial date was booked Skylar and Alonso would go together to purchase two stun guns and handcuffs to put his plan in action. Skylar would tell Alonso they would need a third guy to help with the heavy lifting to ensure their plan would go smoothly. Skylar would ask his father to help but he refused because he didn't trust Alonso. So Alonso recruited a man he had been aquainted with named CJ. Tom and Jackie were nervous to be alone at sea with these three men so Skylar once again asked Jennifer to come down with the kids. When Tom and Jackie would finally agree to go out Jennnifer would excuse herself and the couple would be forced to go ahead with the plan anyways. Once out to sea Tom would take Skylar and CJ below deck to them around, Jackie was left with Alonso and once she heard a struggle she reacted to the noise and Alonso would leap into action. Once the couple was subdued in their cabin below deck they would sign all the documents Skylar had with the promise of being freed. But Tom and Jackie would never set foot on land again. After they had signed all the documents Skylar would lead the couple to the back of the boat where he tied the couple together with Jackies back against Tom's chest and then tied the other end to the anchor. After opening the gate and releasing the anchor Tom and Jackie were pulled from their spot and into the depths. After the couple were submerged Skylar ordered the two men to remove all traces of the struggle and all the evidence went overboard. After returning the boat to the dock Skylar called Jennifer to assure the plan was a success. Police went out looking for the man named CJ and after speaking to some local gang members and would find out CJ was a man named John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was a member of the Long Beach crips with an extensive violent record. But he seemed to have turned his life around with three children and worked as a contractor for gang intervention but with the promise of a few thousand dollars he was more than willing to help Skylar carrying out his murder plot.
Investigators were convinced Jennifer had known the plan all along with her story changing a few times but she always stuck to her guns in refusing to implicate Skylar in any of the crimes he was charged with. Detectives even offered immunity if she testified against him to which she refused but with Alonso's testimony they would have plenty to proceed with. Alonso said that every detail of the plan to dispatch the hawks was made with Jennifer's input. She had been the one to turn up at the boat to their minds at ease and it was her idea to force the couple to sign the power of attorney documents. She was the one at the bank demanding money from the bank accounts. Once Skylar was officially charged with murder there was enough evidence to charge her as well. Even though she wasn't on the boat she was charged with two counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
While investigating Skylar they would learn via phone records that implicated him in the death of Jon Jarvi. Skylar had been in regular contact with JP leading up to his travel to encinata. And then abruptly stopped after that day they had met. Because Jon Jarvi was dead. There were eye witnesses that had seen the pair together the day of the murder as well. And Skylar's vehicle was recorded crossing the border back into the states a few hours later. With the cash he had taken from JP he immediately went to work with upgrading his ford f150, paid off a credit card and bought new scuba equipment and gifts for Jennifer and his daughter.
And as for John Julius Jacob Jr it would turn out that Skylar was actually him. After the military Junior changed his name to Skylar Deleon to distance himself from his father but he never really stopped contact. with his name change though it made it hard to investigate him at first. Obviuously knowing juniors story we know Skylar was damaged goods.
Jennifer was first in trial and her defense was that she was afraid for her life and went along with everything Skylar had planned to protect her children. But evidence would show the contrary in that they called eachother over 100 times through out the sea trial. October 2007 Jennifer was sentenced to two life terms without the possibility of parole.
Skylar's defense was based off of his abuse through his childhood. During his trial Skylar would been seen as appearing more and more feminine in court. And would in fact tell the judge he was transgender and began asking to be put in a women's prison. Apparebtly he had plans to under go transitioanal surgery before he carried out the murder of the Hawkes. During his trial he was found bleeding in his cell from attempting to cut off his own penis. in 2009 Skylar was found guilty of three counts of murder and was sentenced to Death.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was convicted of two counts of murder and also sentenced to death.
Alonso pled guilty and was sentenced to 20 years and 4 months in prison.

Tom and Jackie Hawkes deserved everything they had aquired and more. They deserve to be here with their grandchildren and it was robbed from them. Searches of the GPS coordinates were fruitless and to this day their bodies have never been found.
